Psychedelic-Assisted Somatic Therapy Program

This program combines somatic therapies with a low-dose psychedelic to help patients access and process emotional content that might otherwise be difficult to reach. We use a psycholytic, or “mind-loosening,” dose, so the patient remains relational and communicative throughout, able to engage in dialogue with the therapist rather than moving into an inward, non-verbal state.

Given as a rapid dissolving tablet and/or nasal spray, the low-dose psychedelic softens the usual defenses around difficult material, while its mild anesthetic quality can support reducing physical pain, tension, and rigidity. Together, this can create a state of relaxation that makes it easier to approach and stay with challenging topics without becoming overwhelmed.

The therapeutic foundation combines Somatic Experiencing (SE) and craniosacral therapy. SE is a body-based approach to counselling rooted in trauma recovery. Rather than only talking about difficult experiences, it helps the nervous system feel through and move past them by completing incomplete protection responses in the body. Patients’ cognitive memories remain, but their emotional attachment to those memories may shift.

Craniosacral therapy is a gentle hands-on modality that works directly with the body’s tissue and fascia. It complements the verbal and somatic processing by releasing the restrictions and holding patterns that often accompany traumatic experiences. It rehabilitates the parasympathetic nervous system, the body’s rest-and-recover state, reinforcing the sense of safety and openness this work requires.

  • Anxiety: a disproportionate and inaccurate perception of threat, leading to hyper vigilance and feeling stuck in a state of alert.
  • Depression: collapse or shutdown when the nervous system has been overwhelmed for too long and moves into a protective, low-power state rather than staying activated.
